Consult our Linking to Library Resources pages to get help linking to items within specific databases. Resources on this page will continue to grow as we migrate more databases over to OpenAthens
Outside of the fact that a permalink takes a user directly to a source, using permalinks ensures copyright compliance when linking to items from Canvas or other course webpages. If you host an article directly within Canvas, you're infringing on someone's copywritten work and are liable for any negative outcome as a result of posting that work. To avoid this, provide a permalink to the document whenever possible. When linking to items containted within a library database, you are ensuring compliance!
Any links including reference to our old authentication system, EZProxy, will need to be reformatted.
Each of the URLs above contain reference to lrcexproxy and will no longer be usable. Start with a fresh URL from a resource and use the Open Athens Link Generator (info below) to create new links.
Use the CLC OpenAthens link generator to create links to specific library resources.
IMPORTANT The OpenAthens link generator should not be used for resources found in Ebsco, ProQuest, Gale, and Kanopy databases. Please see below for help in constructing those links.
Ebsco, Gale, Kanopy and Proquest databases don't use Athenized linking. Instead, they detect allowed usage via an account ID or other identifier.
As we work through this transition, there will likely be times links don't work. In our email to faculty dated 03/02/2023 we suggested the following:
Review paths to linked individual items you may be linking to. We understand that many of you use direct links to specific resources. All of these individually linked resource URLs will change. There will likely be times when you haven’t captured every resource change or a changed URL doesn’t work and you will need to quickly route students to a resource. You may need to provide students with step-by-step instructions as to how to access an item with an incorrect link.
Sample Step-by-Step Strategy:
Navigate to JSTOR (provide direct link to database using permanent URL method outlined above). Use the searchbox to search for: When Universities Cut, Libraries Bleed. Click the title to access the full text of the article. You can confirm you’re looking at the correct article by noting the author (Anne Ford) and date (November/December 2018).
